Violence against women is a serious social problem that takes many forms, including:
domestic violence (also known as spousal abuse, wife assault, or intimate partner violence); sexual assault;
sexual harassment; and
criminal harassment (also known as stalking)
Violence against women takes place in homes, workplaces, schools, institutions and community settings, and it puts children who are exposed to it at greater risk of developmental, behavioural and emotional difficulties.
Violence affects women of all age groups, cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
The Zen Women's Defense Program is specially designed to teach proven techniques that women can use to defend themselves against a larger opponent.
Understand the risks and how to avoid dangerous situations
Learn tools to stop and deescalate inappropriate behavior
Learn how to defend yourself against an attacker
Our program comprises 25 one hour classes, taught once a week. 20 classes where you will learn fundamental movements related to self defense plus three new self defense techniques each class. An addition to these 20 classes there are 4 additional periodic classes where you will review the previous techniques that you learned culminating in a final class where you will review all the techniques taught in all 20 classes.
In addition to basic self defense postures and movement there are an additional 60 different self defense techniques that we will teach you at Zen. Among some of the techniques are:
I have been a Muay Thai and Karate student at zen for a number of years. Despite being very comfortable with my punching, kicking and blocking i still felt that there was something missing. I wasn't sure if I was ready to join the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program, but wanted to learn some of the self defense techniques taught to those students. The zen women's self defense classes are perfect. They have taken all the most important techniques a woman needs to know in both a standing and ground fight situation and combined them into a 25 week program just for woman. The techniques are really effective and the classes are really fun.
