Kyle Seabrooke was born and raised in Haliburton, Ontario. He has called Ottawa home since 2009 and has been running his investment and financial planning business through Sun Life for the last 14 years.
Kyle began his journey in martial arts by starting karate in 2001 at the age of 12 at Kai Shin Karate North in Haliburton under the guidance of Sensei Michael Chapman. Sensei Chapman, who is recognized for his martial arts credentials, is a black belt under the esteemed Sensei Monty Guest, one of the most celebrated karate black belts in Canada and one of Sensei Tsuruoka’s first black belts.
After diligently training and focusing on karate rank progression, Kyle achieved his black belt in 2005 and has been actively teaching students as a karate instructor since 2006.
Sho Dan (1st degree black belt) - July 2005, awarded by Karate Instructors Senseis Monty Guest and Michael Chapman.
Ni Dan (2nd degree black belt) – Sept 2014, awarded by Karate Instructor Sensei Michael Chapman.
San Dan (3rd degree black belt) – Nov 2017, awarded by Karate Instructors Senseis Mark Bell, John MacCallum, Rick Mullin, and Mitch Maxine of Jiyu Shin Karate in Peterborough, Ontario.
Yon Dan (4th degree black belt) – Aug 2025, awarded by Karate Instructors Senseis John MacCallum, Rick Mullin, and Mitch Maxine. This achievement reflects my Karate rank progression and demonstrates my commitment to martial arts credentials.
The WMO Team achieved a Bronze Medal in September 2018 during a competition in Albufeira, Portugal. Additionally, I earned my Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in June 2025 under the guidance of Professor David Dash, the founder of Zen and a recognized BJJ black belt, further enhancing my martial arts credentials as a dedicated Karate Instructor focused on karate rank progression.
Since beginning his training in 2001, Kyle has been actively involved in the karate tournament scene, amassing over 50 medals in sparring and kata within Ontario's competitive landscape from 2002 to 2026. As a dedicated karate instructor, he has achieved significant karate rank progression, showcasing his skills and dedication in various competitions.
At the WMO Team Canada Qualifiers tournament in 2018, held in Milton, ON, Kyle earned a gold medal in sparring and a bronze medal in kata, securing his spot on Team Canada.
Later that year, during the WMO World Championships in Albufeira, Portugal, he continued to demonstrate his martial arts credentials, winning a bronze medal in kata and finishing 4th place in sparring.
Kyle, a dedicated karate instructor since earning his black belt in 2005, has served as the head karate instructor at ZENMMA since 2012. Over the years, he has successfully guided over 10 students through their karate rank progression to achieve black belt status.
As a skilled coach, Kyle has led students to numerous competitions throughout Ontario and Quebec, including the prestigious Karate Ontario provincial tournament. He is passionate about teaching martial arts to students of all ages and skill levels.
